Music has been a big part of Lauren's life for as long as she can remember. Lauren started playing the piano when she was 7 and from there her love for music grew. Since then she has picked up many other instruments including but not limited to, the trumpet, stand-up bass, bass guitar, french horn, flute, and clarinet. Lauren has played with many different bands in the DC, VA, MD area with genres varying between classical, jazz, latin, ska, and funk. Not only is Lauren a music instructor, and repairs/refurbishes instruments. She studied music education at Radford University and has been teaching music since May 2008.
I have been in Girl Scouts since I was in kindergarten, through the Girl Scout program I have been an assistant troop leader and been a camp counselor for multiple different camps. These expiriences are what lead me to know that I wanted to work with kids when I grew up. It also taught me a lot about how to teach with different techniques for kids who learn different ways. I have had many special needs students who have taught me how to be a better teacher and how to reach kids who have different disabilities. I have also taught middle school flute and clarinet in the Loudoun County Public School System, it was a lot of fun and one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I've been teaching music since May 2008 and love music. My goal is to pass on my passion for music to future generations. Many of my student I have had for years on end. I've gotten to see them grow up and it's a very fulfilling knowing that I have contributed to the family’s life by teaching the kids to play music and foster the courage for the students to play for their families.
I'm a huge fan of jazz music and always have been, growing up I loved listening to all the greats, Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Maynard Ferguson, Benny Goodman, Sammy Nestico, etc. A few of my favorite bands I enjoy listening to lately are Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band, Pentatonix, Post Modern Jukebox(which is super cool because it takes modern songs and transforms them into different styles).
I have not done a whole lot of traveling. I've seen a lot of the east coast, but would love to visit Ireland and Italy some day.
I have many experiences teaching special needs children and they are by far the most rewarding. Over time I developed different methods of teaching musical concepts so that if the lessons don't make sense the first way I explain them I can teach it from a different angle. Not everyone can learn the same way so you have to be flexible with different teaching styles. This has definitely helped out my special needs students in the past.
Love our instructor she is very kid friendly.

My boys both enjoy their time with Lauren. She has gotten my younger son (7) very interested in each lesson. We all enjoy learning with Lauren and hope to continue with her for months.
