Music became a passion of mine at an early age when I began playing the piano and singing to songs on the radio. I took lessons in both classical voice and piano through high school, and was very active in the local music club through music festival participation and competitions. I recently received my Bachelor's of Music from James Madison University with a concentration in Vocal Performance. While at JMU I participated in the Opera Theatre and I was very active in our Opera Guild. I have been teaching privately for five years to both piano and voice students. In my lessons I like to create a foundation in classical traditions while also exploring other genres that are of interest to my students.
I have enjoyed working with children in many capacities since I began babysitting at 13 years old. I gained a lot of my experience with younger children through being a leader in a kid's club, where I worked predominately with preschool and elementary aged children. I also have worked with older children through being a student director for my local children's community theatre, and by being a leader on youth mission trips. I understand that working with children requires patience, positivity, and great energy, which I aim to bring in each of my lessons. In lessons I seek to show my passion for music and help foster a love for music in each of my students.
