Katie played in the University of Maryland Symphony Orchestra and Musical Theater in such productions as Music Man and How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. She received a scholarship to The San Francisco Conservatory of Music in 2005, where she was principal cellist of the opera for Cendrillon and The Last Five Years. There she studied under the teaching Jean Michel Fonteneau and Mark Sokol. Other productions with the Conservatory include St. John's Passion. After the Conservatory, she returned to the University of Maryland to play principal cellist on Jane Eyere...
I work well with kids because I feel like I am a kid myself. I teach in “black and white”, meaning there is a right way to make a stringed instrument sound good, and a wrong way. I teach the right way from the very beginning. Plus, I have routine for each lesson so students know what is expected. Also, I make sure that we are always learning and always having fun.

We’re very happy with Katie! We like her enthusiasm and level of energy—and that she pushes Sam when ‘s he’s not working hard enough. She’s very good at communicating and we’ve found it very easy and enjoyable to work with her. We’d definitely recommend her.

Katie has wonderful energy and her enthusiasm for the cello is motivating for me. She knows how to get you back into the swing of playing with simple exercises. Very accommodating. She knows how much "homework" to assign so it doesn't feel overwhelming. I have been taking lessons now for about 18 months and I am very pleased.
