Born in Washington DC, James grew up just outside of the district in Chevy Chase, Maryland. He fell in love with music at a young age and began playing guitar and clarinet at the age of 9 and added piano to his repertoire at 15. He graduated from Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School in 2011 and attended the University of California Santa Barbara where he graduated with a degree in ecology and evolution in 2015. He has also recently received a professional certificate in guitar and general music studies from the Berklee College of Music in 2019.
First and foremost, I have been in the students' shoes. Growing up taking music lessons in the area, and continuing to learn from some of the greatest, I have experienced a wide array of teachers and model my teaching style after the best. I am extremely patient and enjoy following along as music piques a child's interest and they begin an exciting new journey. I try to make my lessons fun so that students remain engaged while learning. I aim to include students as much as possible in the learning process in order to personalize each student's lesson plan to align with their interests. I also have experience working with kids as a camp counselor at various sports summer camps in the area over many summers growing up. Music is the great equalizer bringing joy to people of all ages.
