Clarinet, Piano, Saxophone
Classical, Jazz, Swing
I became involved in music at an early age, starting piano lessons at the age of 5. By the end of 6th grade, I had started playing clarinet, saxophone and singing in addition to the piano. Through middle school and high school, I was selected to the Lee County All-County Band six times, the All-County Jazz Band once, and the Florida All-State Band three times. I performed with the most prestigious young adult ensembles in Southwest Florida, including the Florida Gulf Coast Youth Wind Ensemble and the Southwest Florida Youth Symphony Orchestra. At the University of Central Florida, I was chosen as a section leader for the UCF Marching Knights and pursued a minor in Music. I am currently a member of the Blessed Sacrament Festival Orchestra and perform weekly with the Folk Group. Through all of this, I have had the wonderful opportunity to teach my peers, as well as those just beginning to learn their instruments, and am excited to have the chance to continue doing so.
I work well with kids because I remember not only the challenges of learning something completely new, but also the feeling of wonder when everything finally clicks and you produce the most wonderful thing you have ever heard. While every child learns differently, I want everyone to be able to have that feeling of joy listening to the art they create, and have the patience and experience to work through each individual's challenges.

"Dear Ms Woodal, Matthew had a good lesson with Ethan. Yesterday we saw a good positive approach, so we are excited about Matthew continuing his SAX lessons. We will start today with Monday classes at 6PM. "

The first lesson was mostly an orientation and skills assessment. It's early to tell how well the chemistry will be - which I'm assuming is typical at this point - but Ethan was nice and engaging, so I'd like to go forward and see how we can do.

Everything went well, I think. Ethan had patience with her and that is definitely a requirement. He praised her but also in a good way let her know when things weren't done correctly. I had told Ethan that Emily is very shy and she showed it yesterday by being a giggler.
