Dawn is an accomplished, gifted, and talented young lady from Silver Spring, MD. She earned her Bachelor's degree in Music Education from Grambling State University and a Master's degree in Music Education from Howard University. Dawn is currently working as a middle school band director.
Besides being an educator, Dawn is a professional trumpet player. She is very active in numerous ensembles in the DC metro area. Throughout her career, Dawn has had the privilege to teach music to police musicians in Abu Dhabi,UAE,perform in Austria, Italy, Toronto, Switzerland,and other cities across the US.
In addition, Dawn is active in numerous prestigious music organizations such as Colour of Music Festival, DC Strings Orchestra, the Go-Go Symphony,Tau Beta Sigma National Honorary Band Sorority, Inc.,and Sigma Alpha Iota,National Fraternity for Women.
Dawn has also graced the stages with Benny Golson,Larry Graham,Marian Meadows,Hubert Laws,Jimmy Owens, and Roy Hargrove.

Why I Work Well with Kids

I work well with kids because I enjoy inspiring the next generation of young musicians. Watching the enjoyment of my students as they are learning, showing teamwork, and bonding in the classroom is priceless. I love motivating my students to be the best that they can be. When I see my students wanting to continue on their music journey for the next year, that lets me know that I have done my job.

Special Needs Students

As a middle school band director, I worked with students who have special needs. Communication with parents are very key to know specifically what the student needs. I use differentitaed instruction to help my students learn and I do my best to accomodate any students who have certain needs.
