Colin J. is a professional performing musician and private instructor. He has studied music extensively throughout his life, beginning with formal classical piano lessons and ear training in childhood. During his teenage years, he played saxophone in middle and high school band programs, focusing on jazz. Upon graduation, he began his career as a freelance pianist/keyboardist and saxophonist, where he gained experience working with many different groups and a vast array of musical styles all over the world. He also began giving lessons to students of all ages on both piano and saxophone, and relishes in sharing his knowledge of music with others who are eager to learn.
I believe that I work well with kids because I also was a student of music at an early age. I try to explain the lessons as I'd want them explained to me as a child. My priority is making learning music as fun and enjoyable as possible!

I am not certified, but I was taught Suzuki method while taking piano lessons as a child.
Colin jumped right into action when the boys had to switch teachers. The boys are happy with him and like the fact that he sings when they are playing piano.

I like that Colin is very positive with the kids. My kids respond to positive reinforcement, which Colin provides, rather than negative reinforcement. He also adjusts to each child's learning level, which is helpful. We were very worried about starting with a new piano teacher. But Colin has been a smooth transition for them.
